Well, That Sucked.

Fin had his 2 month vaccinations this morning-three shots and one oral dose. We pretreated with acetaminophen but still, his cries reached a decibel and pitch we'd never heard before. I can't imagine what it would've been like without the anticipatory pain relief dose. Mom and Dad did very well but it really was tough to watch even though we know it's for the greater good. Fin was easily consolable after the injections and now is wiped out.

On a good note, our little guy is growing quite well! He is in the 90+ percentile for everything...at least he's proportionate! Almost 14lbs, 16.5 inch head circumference, and 24.5 inches long! Big boy!

We're thrilled that he's growing so well and that he did so well with his shots overall...it's really special for Jeff and I to be able to pick Fintan up when he's crying and comfort him. We love him so.

Fin's First Thanksgiving

This is the first Thanksgiving in 5 years that I haven't cooked and that my brother wasn't here to celebrate. It was a welcomed break from cooking but not from Jason! We (Me, Jeff, Fin, and my Mom) all celebrated next door at Barbara, CJ, and Caroline's house. When we arrived they were just about to announce the winner of the Westminster Dog Show. Fin was sound asleep in Lauren's arms and most of us were puling for the Deerhound. When the judge pointed at the Irish Setter as the winner the lot of us yelled out 'Booooo!' Well, this noise must've really scared Fin, or he was outraged at the choice, anyway, it made his bottom lip come out and he let out a HUGE cry! We all couldn't help but laugh! To top it off, after he finished his brief cry, he put his hand over his entire his as if in absolute dismay the Irish Setter had won...too cute! The food was aplenty and exquisite as was the wine and champagne. It was a nice day with friends and Fin was great as always :). We rounded out the day all snuggled up in Barbara and CJ's tv room watching Beauty and the Beast! A great day.

After dinner, the entire group went a walk around the park to make room for pie. Caroline can be seen running away with our boy and Gracie isn't far behind her!

Bath Time

Fin loves bath time and I couldn't help but take a bunch of pics and a video of tonight's bath. Fintan Bear is terribly entertaining! Hope ya'll don't get sick of me gushing!

Munching on Grandma's hand!

I held the camera sideways :( So...just tilt your head to enjoy the Fantastic Fin.
Jeff and I had our first date night out on Monday night. We went to a great restaurant and really enjoyed our meal and time alone together. We are hoping to do the same on Friday night while Grandma Dolly is still here to babysit.

Fin is dressed up in his hospital scrubs! Our friends from Denver (Dave, Dana, Josh, and Michelle) gave us these awesome duds! Baby, MD!

We headed to the aquarium on Tuesday. Fin basically slept through the entire thing but we adults had an absolute blast. Here G-ma and Jeff are touching the sharks and sting rays.

Mom, Fin, and the sea otters.

G-ma, Fin, and the penguins.

Bath time! Look at those eyes-so precious!!

Gma and Fin.

We had some good floor time today. Fin was really chatting away and laughing at his mobile.

Fin still isn't a huge fan of tummy time but he indulges us for 5-10 minutes every so often. As you can see, he his getting quite strong!

No sleep, Hindu celebration.

As a baby, apparently I rarely slept: no naps, up all night. Not fussy but awake. Well, it seems that Fin has moments when he emulates his mom...like on Thursday night. Jeff and I took turns trying to rock Fin asleep to no avail. He was smiley...just not tired and moreover he just really wanted to be held. The night wouldn't have been so bad but Jeff had to leave for a squash tourney in Louisville at 7am Friday am. Fin decided he wouldn't sleep all day Friday either (no longer than 10 minutes) so, on 2 hours of sleep, I had a bit of a rough day.

One of the 10 minute naps.

Finally at 6pm, I called my neighbor Elaine to come over and hold him so I could shower and have a quick rest. She scolded me for not calling sooner and I too realized my error; it's ok to ask for help, to accept help that is offered, and next time I will not wait as long! My mom arrived late Friday night to help me the rest of the weekend and will stay through Thanksgiving.

Aah-after a 30 minute rest, I came out to find Elaine and Fintan chatting/cuddling.

Yesterday we attended the birthday party of Kaiyan, our neighbor who turned 1! They had a traditional Hindu ceremony where the 8th sacrament is celebrated-the first haircut/shaving of the hair to contribute to the strength, vigor, longevity, purity and beauty of the individual. It was a beautiful ceremony with lots of chanting, the burning of a sacred fire, cutting of Kai's hair, and then lots of delicious Indian food. Great crowd and when Fin finally did wake up he was his usual laid-back self.

Fin clearly not the party animal yet.

Burning the sacred fire. Reena and Jay (Kai's parents) are to the right in this picture, in blue and gold.

First tuft of hair being cut by Ronnie, Reena's mom.

Finishing the haircut with clippers.

Finally finished, Kai without hair is just as cute as Kai with hair! We had a celebratory chant and then threw flower petals on the parents and Kai.

Cheeks!

Fintan has had a rough couple days of spitting up. We initially thought it was a citrus sensitivity but now think it may be something else. He dry heaved and gagged and eventually threw up three times yesterday. It was so sad to see and I immediately called Jeff to come home as I was concerned. After a few more feedings he still wasn't holding anything down so we called our neighbor Elaine to come over and check him out. It was pretty cool to see her in action, in her element, as peds is her line of work. It is obvious that she is very good at her job and it's no wonder her patients love her. Fin was completely relaxed by her demeanor as she performed the examination. Essentially she was checking for blockage or pyloric stenosis. She concluded that he was healthy but to watch for any bumps in his belly or any changes in behavior. Last night went pretty well. He spit up a little bit but no major projectile vomit.

Today Fin, Diego, and I went for a walk to get out of the house. Well, two hours later we returned home...went longer than intended but it was a beautiful day and the colors of the leaves are absolutely gorgeous.

The little guy is sleeping on my lap right now. He's been so exhausted from being sick :(

Fin's face is priceless!!!

Look at those cheeks!!!

Fintan Photo Fiesta

SO, I just finished writing a long update and my computer didn't save it. As a result, my update will be written with less fervor as I am angry at my computer! Haha!

Our little Finny-Bear is getting more alert everyday. He is so much fun to watch and keeps me laughing constantly. When he's fussy or can't go to sleep, I'm not laughing as much, but I still am enjoying the challenges and adjustments that keep coming our way. Again, our neighbors have been so supportive and I feel so fortunate to have them in our lives. It's so cathartic to talk with them and hear that my new mom feelings are normal and to hear their experiences as new moms too. I had my 6-week postpartum check-up yesterday and I got the all clear to work out normally again. I had been taking it easy (just going walks)

Doesn't Fin look too adorable (and slightly crazed!) in with is Bear-eared hoodie?!

Fin has been doing well lately. He looks around so much, lifts his head and moves it side-to-side makes good eye-contact, and smiles. He sleeps pretty well but really prefers to be held when he sleeps rather than going into his crib. As evidenced by the picture below, we obviously don't have too much time obliging :)

My dear friend from college Megan and her daughter Lily came to visit last week. It was such a blast to share our experience as new moms together and reflect on our friendship! We met just over 10 years ago during our freshman year at the University of Denver. She was such a help while she was here. We went on lots of walks, relaxed, laughed a ton, and spent a lot of time shaking our heads and looking at our children. Her daughter Lily is too precious! She's 8 months old and has the sweetest little face. I can't wait to see them again soon!

Megan, Lily, Diego, and Fidel. We couldn't believe that Fidel cuddled near Lily. He is not a fan of children but was so kind and cuddly with her. Gave Jeff and I hope for how he'll be with Fin.

The family's first time to a restaurant. Fin was great...he slept the entire time and Jeff and I enjoyed a great lunch with Lily, Megan, and my friend Betty at Murphy's.

Fin and Lily! They are such little buds already :)! Lily is such a petite little nugget and Fin is such a little chunker! They look so funny together. We think Fin will outweigh Lily in no time...there are only a couple pounds apart right now!

My other lovely friend Betty came to visit from NYC! She and I were in the postbac premed program at Columbia. It was so nice of her to come and now that she's gone I miss her so much! She was so great with Fin and Lily and really could make Fin smile! Just look at that photo. I love it. I hope she hurries back soon!
