Lots Going On!
Our little nugget is growing and changing faster than ever. Every day he improves his walking, his curiosity is boundless, and his warmth is unbelievable. He has also said two words! One morning Jeff and I were playing with Fintan on the floor and we asked him where the dogs were. He looked over at Diego, pointed, and said, 'Dog!' He has yet to repeat that performance, but needless to say, Jeff and I were stoked. Also, last week during bath time, I was leaning over the tub, both arms in the water around Fintan and he had his back to me, his head snuggled under my chin. I asked him where the duck was. I then asked in a low, soft voice, can you say duck? He looked around and spotted his duck and stared at it. He was quiet for about 20-25 seconds and then said very clearly, 'duck.' SO, dog, duck...pretty similar but he said them with intention and in context so we're excited.
He is continuing to sleep well and eat well and grow and amaze us every day. He is getting loved on thoroughly by all! Also, regarding his walking, he would definitely rather fly. He gets going so fast it looks like he's trying to take off!
This weekend Jeff went on a golfing trip with the squash guys to Chicago and I have lots o' studying to do (surprise, surprise) so my mom offered to take Fintan for the weekend. Oy! I've never been away from him overnight before, let alone an entire weekend. Well, my heart absolutely broke as Jeff and Finny B drove away. I knew this day was going to come sometime. Jeff and I have received many pics on our phones and I heard him on the phone today laughing and chatting. He's doing very well! Can't wait for him and Jeff to get back though. Spoke with Jeff today and he's having a great weekend; played 36 holes today, 18 yesterday, and is going to get 18 in tomorrow (but hoping to get 36). He's also anxious to get home. Jeff was saying, here he is on a guys weekend and all he wants to do is show people pictures of Fintan and talk about him-haha. Pretty funny.
Jeff's work is going well. He really loves that club and thinks it's such a special place. Joanna was out of town last week so Jeff brought Fintan to work with him. Fintan was REALLY needy of Jeff and spazzed every time he left to teach a lesson but Eliza, a member, took care of him and John O'Brien helped too. School is going well. Just busy. Liking some of my classes, some of them not, liking most of my classmates, some of them not.
Well, I best get to bed. A tiny, tiny bonus of Finny being at Nana's is that I get to sleep in! Today I slept in until 8:30! I have no idea the last time that happened! Awesome. Jeff and Fintan come back Monday morning so I have one more day to try and be really productive. I should also mention that Diego and Fidel are LOVING having me all to themselves :) One last thing, it has turned to Fall and I couldn't be happier. I love when the air is cool but the sun can still warm. It might be my favorite season-if only it weren't tainted by the constant threat of winter. Hmm, that reminds me of the wise words of Bob Dylan, "Get your mind off wintertime, you ain’t goin’ nowhere." Alright, Bobby D, looks like I have to adjust my attitude.

And he points!
I survived my first exam and Jeff his first few 'real' days of work. Yesterday I did a little work in the morning and then the three of us decided to go and play squash! Jeff finally works at a club I can go to! Woot woot! We set Fintan up in a pack n' play at the back of the courts and Jeff and I played a few games. SOOOOOO fun! I'm already a little addicted. Fintan was banging on the back wall, not crying, but yelling loudly so we stopped and let him run around the court. He had a ton of fun and so did we.
Fintan took us by surprise yesterday when he pointed at his bottle that was up high. Throughout the rest of the day he kept pointing at various objects and we'd tell him what they were , "piggy bank" and "Stuffed Teddy" and "Bottle." Pretty fun! It's weird because it feels like he's communicating with us-I guess he his. Wild. This morning he also responded when I asked him what Diego says. He made sort of a 'woof woof' sound! Too fun. He's such a freaking happy baby.
Today our friends (Barbara and CJ) are in town from Atlanta to bring their daughter (Caroline) to school at Carleton. It's so nice to have them here! We miss them and are so glad that Caroline will be close and they'll undoubtedly be coming through more often too!
Tomorrow, Jeff and I have another squash match planned and then I'll be studying. Fintan is continuing to sleep well and eat well. This week he ate homemade turkey meatballs that Jeff made and this morning an avocado, egg yolk, cream-cheese spread on whole wheat toast that I made. He's eating heartily, laughing a lot, and is cuddly as ever. This morning when I was holding him, right after he woke up, he put one hand on either side of my neck and hugged me. Jeff and I completely melted. Such a nugget.

some pics
As you all know, I'm a man of few words. So, I will be leaving most of the writing duties for my writing major/future MD wife (when she has the time)! I will, however, be doing my best to keep you all up to speed with pics and videos!
Jeff
Hey!!!
hi, aren't I cute?
Dad at work, missing my buddy terribly.

SLACKING!
Jeff and I are trying to figure out a balance for the blog-we're thinking he'll upload the pics/vids and I'll do the writing...but we've definitely slacked on that. Work in progress...
Fintan Bear is just the best kid. He's so unbelievably smiley, active, curious, focused, loving and strong. He's taking more and more steps at a time (sometimes walking across entire rooms!). He loves playing 'chase' right now. This entails pretty much what the last video was about except there is more going around the chair. He LOVES it and when we finish changing his diaper and put him down in his room he scoots so quickly behind the chair and giggles for us to chase him. Hilarity to no end. He's eating more and more table foods. His first taste of Indian this week and it was a hit! We did not expect that! He's still a great eater and doing well on the sleep front. He is now sort of testing the waters by throwing his favorite giraffe out of his crib (from Z in Atlanta!) and then crying until he gets it back. Now, when we give it back he doesnt continue crying, he lays down and goes to sleep, so we're hoping he'll get tired of this game (and not start throwing it out repeatedly).
He and Joanna (his nanny) are having a BLAST together. It's so great for Jeff and I to know that he has such a great day with her. I'm sure I mentioned this before, but she is so incredibly active and takes him outside every day on multiple walks, runs, to the store, etc. Tues/Weds I've been studying from home during the day and when I take a break, remove my earplugs, I can hear her chatting with him, him chatting back, and lots of giggling! He doesn't talk that much to us! It's so nice. It's also great for me because when I'm at home studying, I can see him for little breaks. Makes the day SO much better/more tolerable. He doesn't freak out when I pop in and out either. He gets really excited to see me but when I go back to study and wave/say 'bye-bye' he waves and goes back to playing with Joanna! I'm still adjusting to med school and being away from Fintan-definitely very tough. First exam Friday so I guess we'll really see how it's all going!
Jeff officially starts his new job tomorrow! He's been going in for the last month but Sept 1 makes it official. He's really looking forward to working with the membership and playing more squash again! Tough on him though too because his days with Fintan will change :(
Pics will be on their way soon!
To sum it all up: there's a whole lot of love going on in this household.
